In various federal states in Germany, there were recently violent storms, which resulted in numerous injuries and damage to property. An incident in Trier was particularly worrying, where a tree crown fell on two moving cars. A driver was seriously injured and had to be freed from his vehicle. Fortunately, the inmates of the second vehicle remained unharmed.

In Central Hesse, an overturned tree injured two young men in their car. The 18-year-old driver and his 17-year-old passenger suffered minor injuries. In the North Hesse region, police sources reported several traffic accidents caused by fallen trees, as well as damage to property and other slightly injured persons.

impairments by the weather

The German Weather Service (DWD) had announced heavy thunderstorms and considerable rain for the affected period, especially between North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate, Saarland and parts of Brandenburg and Saxony. This weather conditions also led to route closures at Deutsche Bahn, as trees were on the tracks, which significantly impaired train traffic in Rhineland-Palatinate.

in Fulda was an overturned tree for around 60 hotel guests an obstacle because the entrance to the building was blocked. The fire brigade had to remove the tree before the guests could leave the hotel. There were also similar scenarios on the streets in East Hesse, in which fallen trees and fallen branches led to dangerous conditions for drivers.

reactions and use of the rescue workers

The police had to monitor in some regions, for example in the Hessian district of Hersfeld-Rotenburg, due to the situation. Some road users were dissatisfied and subsequently came into conflict with the emergency services. Numerous missions were also reported in the Vogelsberg district, as trees blocked the lanes of several streets and caused considerable traffic disruptions.

The fire brigades' missions were not only limited to the street. In Mainz, the storms led to over 20 missions, which included various problems such as water inputs in buildings and fallen branches. In other regions, fires, such as in Gau-Algesheim, were created through lightning strikes, where a scales went up in flames.

These current storm events illustrate the dangers that can occur through extreme weather, and the need for timely security measures and a quick reaction from the emergency services to protect citizens.
