Videonal Bonn: 40 years of video art with exciting anniversary campaigns!

video: between pixel and poetry

Bonn/Bad Godesberg (as). The video, an important festival for video and time-based art forms, is a very special event this year: it celebrates its 40th anniversary with the 20th edition. This anniversary event will take place in the Bonn Art Museum and in other places in the city until May 18 and offers a multifaceted exhibition that illuminates the development and current state of video art.

In preparation for the anniversary, the team around the artistic director Annette Ziegert and Tasja Langenbach has searched the archive and presents 20 video wagons of international artists. These works form a dialogue between the past and the presence of video art and show the variety and depth of this creative medium. This connection between history and modernity is a central concern of the exhibition.

In addition to the main exhibition, the "video parcours" is supplemented with six other video works in various urban rooms in the city center and old town. This course temporarily transforms these places into art areas, which gives visitors the opportunity to experience the videos in the context of their surroundings. The selection of the works illustrates the artistic possibilities that video offers as a medium - both in the past and in today's world.

The festival also offers an extensive supporting program that includes tours, workshops, conversations with artists, screenings and performances. These events take place not only within the museum, but also in parks, historical sites and even in private living rooms. A special highlight of the event was the reception in the drinking pavilion in the Bad Godesberg city park. Here the guests were able to enjoy culinary offers that were prepared by the Berlin artist Paula first man and take up creative elements from the area.

The video stands not only for artistic excellence, but also for the promotion of dialogue within the art community and with the audience. It enables a platform on which both established and emerging artists can present their perspectives and ideas, and thus contributes to the dynamic development of video art.
