Matthias Leckel surprises at “Bares for Rares” with valuable dragonfly brooch
Matthias Leckel entered the ZDF flea show "Bares for Rares" with little expectations, but his appearance took a gratifying turn. This became rapidly clear when he left the show with a wide grin and a considerable amount of money.
Leckel's subject, a handmade brooch in the form of a dragonfly, has a long family tradition. The jewelry has been kept in his family for generations, probably by his grandmother or great -grandmother. In this regard, the Bonner was not entirely certain, but the history of the heirloom was the interest of the experts.
Heide Recepa-Zabel, the jewelry expert on the show, analyzed the brooch in detail. She found that the piece of jewelry is made of red gold and decorated with diamond roses, a green beryl and synthetic rubies. Furthermore, she described the piece as typical of the important artist René Lalique, who shaped the Art Nouveau with his design. The brooch tears its assessment as a symbol of a fascinating dichotomy between fragility and grace.
The surprise for Leckel came when the value of his object was assessed. While a jeweler had previously advised him not to sell below 500 euros, Recepta-Zabel quickly found that the actual value was around 800 to 1000 euros. This assessment of Leckel naturally left a lasting impression. His reaction went from initial ignorance to visibly attested joy and satisfaction about the value of his jewelry.
In the sales process of the show, the dealers were very interested in the brooch. The bids quickly rose over the 500 euro brand, with Elisabeth Nüdling and Markus Wildhagen in particular being very committed. Ultimately, it was Nüdling who gave the decisive bid of 800 euros, so Wildhagen left the field to her. The visit to “Bares for Rares” was a consistently positive and enjoyable experience for Leckel.
The program "Bares for Rares" runs Monday to Friday at 3:05 p.m. on ZDF and is also available in the media library.
