Königswinter: Fire brigade deletes forest fire in the nature reserve

On Monday afternoon, April 14th, the Königswinter volunteer fire brigade, in particular the Ittenbach fire truck, deleted a smaller forest fire in the Siebengebirge nature reserve. The extremely dry conditions in the area resulted in an increased risk of fire that made a quick intervention necessary.

The fire broke out above a steep wall on the wet square, an area that was previously used as a barbecue area but has not been in use for years. According to a spokesman for the fire brigade, a tree stump in the rough terrain and the fire had already spread to an adjacent embankment.

Efficient extinguishing measures

To combat the fire, special forest fire backpacks were first used. The emergency services then laid a hose line up the steep edge and ensured the water supply with a tanker excavation. Fortunately, there was never an acute danger to the environment or the emergency services.

To ensure that all embers were removed and that the fire can be flare up by the wind, the forest floor was drunk thoroughly. In the afternoon, the fire brigade planned to check the area again with a thermal imaging camera to ensure complete control over the fire site.

It is worth noting that a fire had already broken out in the same place a few years ago, which underlines the importance of preventive measures to prevent forest fires in these sensitive ecosystems. Such events require a high degree of attention and resources to protect the valuable green of the nature reserves.
