"Donate your deposit" at Cologne/Bonn Airport celebrates the tenth anniversary
The project "Donation your deposit" at Cologne/Bonn Airport looks back on an impressive decade. Since its introduction in May 2015, passengers have thrown over three million pledge bottles into the collective tonnes. The resulting Pfander revenue amounts to almost 740,000 euros. These financial resources are used to create jobs for formerly long -term unemployed people, which benefits the community and promotes sustainable social component.
This initiative is the result of a collaboration between the airport, the Jobwerk Porz and the recycling company the green point. Thanks to this partnership, three deposit officers were discontinued, which are responsible for emptying the collecting bins, sorting and packaging of the empties. The collected bottles are then transferred to the recycling circuit, which strengthens the ecological aspects of the initiative. All proceeds from the deposit go completely to the Porz Jobwerk, which promotes the integration of disadvantaged persons into the labor market.
Thilo Schmid, the managing director of Cologne/Bonn GmbH Airport, described the project as a prime example of sustainable development, which combines both social and ecological aspects. In addition, he announced that the airport will in future provide 10,000 euros annually to support logistics costs. This measure is intended to ensure that the project can continue to be successfully continued in the future.
The managing director of Jobwerk Porz, Inez Wolf, emphasized the positive influence of the initiative on people who are often disadvantaged on the regular labor market. Jörg Deppmeyer from the green point confirmed how a value for social projects and resource protection can arise from supposed waste. This means that "donation your deposit" not only represents a memory of recycling and sustainability, but also in the need to support socially disadvantaged groups.
