A future perspective for the town hall Heimathaus
Neuwied. Last Wednesday, the future of the home house came to the center of public attention when the committees for planning and building construction came together. The city administration had invited the citizens to present the results of a feasibility study to redesign the town hall. In it, the experts from IFT-Freizeit und Tourismusberatung GmbH propose a new building that also includes a hotel and the development as a conference location.
The discussion about the concept made it clear that the city is faced with considerable challenges. Deputy Ralf Seemann pointed out that it is only a preliminary planning that is still far from the implementation. In view of the high investment amounts that are necessary for fire protection, the city should make fundamental considerations.
The feasibility study emphasizes that Neuwied lies in a catchment region with a population of up to four million people. Nevertheless, there is a strong competition with neighboring cities such as Cologne, Bonn and Koblenz. In particular, suitable rooms for congresses and conferences are missing in Neuwied, which underlines the need for a new building.
The existing premises are perceived as outdated. The proposals for redesign include modern architecture that offers better technical equipment and more flexibility. The new building could significantly increase the number of events and thus also increase the city's economic income.
The IFT also sees environmental impacts critical, so the planned hotel should take ecological standards into account. In order to meet the needs, an additional parking space is necessary, which was also addressed in the debate. Despite these positive approaches, the financing of the project remains a big question mark. The city could possibly have to subsidize the operating costs to ensure access for clubs.
In view of the existing uncertainties, the city council has given approval for the construction of a mobile event hall, which serves as a temporary solution. This flexible structure could help to improve the event landscape in Neuwied at short notice, while long -term solutions are still being developed.
