New parks should combat loneliness - Zweibrücken
Zweibrücken plans to create new, small parks, which are intended to offer several positive effects on the community. As part of the “Piko Park” project, biodiverse and natural parks will be created in cooperation with housing companies and the residents. This initiative aims to strengthen social interaction, to promote biodiversity and contribute to adaptation to climate change.
Carola Lehmann, one of the initiators of the project, presented the plans for the first two piko parks in Ixheimer Schwalbenstrasse, with one of the parks to be realized in autumn. Another park is planned for spring in the construction engineer on the Rennwiese. The creation of these parks will be associated with an estimated costs of around 240,000 euros, with 90 percent financed from a federal funding program for "natural climate protection in municipalities".
financing and ecological goals
The ecological goals of the piko parks include the protection of local flora and fauna by integrating various suitable plant species. In addition, the park is to reduce temperature in urban areas, especially during the hot summer months. A central aspect of the initiative is also the active participation of the residents in planning and maintaining these common rooms.
participation of the residents
The residents are invited to bring in their wishes and ideas for the design of the parks. In an upcoming planning workshop in May, citizens have the opportunity to actively participate in the planning and to express their ideas. This participatory approach is intended to ensure that the parks meet the needs of the community and at the same time serve as meeting points in order to counteract loneliness in disadvantaged quarter.
effects on quality of life
The creation of the piko parks is part of a larger plan to improve the quality of life in Zweibrücken, especially in areas that were historically characterized as "problem buildings". By creating these green oases, a positive changes in the environment are sought, and it is expected to play an important role in promoting social cohesion in the community. This should not only meet ecological but also social challenges and thus improve the quality of life in the city as a whole.
