From the pain of the neck for diagnosis: Katiuscia overcomes the tumor!

Katiuscia Gay looks back on a particularly festive Christmas 2023, which also marks the end of a long suffering. Her health problems began about a year and a half ago, initially with neck pain that she attributed to stress in everyday life. Despite exercise and treatments by orthopedic surgeons and physiotherapists, their complaints were increasingly deteriorating. Difficulties in sleeping and driving occurred because she could no longer turn her head properly.

After initial skepticism towards medical examinations, she finally had an MRI carried out. The diagnosis was shattering: it had a tumor at the upper end of the cervical spine. The tumor turned out to be a meningooma, a benign but operational tumor that was the cause of her pain. Katiuscia Gay decided to surgery in the Black Forest Baar Clinic, despite the associated high risks.

operation and recovery

she received support from her family doctor who helped her to reduce the fear of the upcoming operation. To improve their inner attitude, Gay humorously called the tumor a "placeholder". The operation lasted at least 15 hours and was carried out under anesthesia. After the procedure, she had slight impairments of the tongue nerve, which led to a small lisp. Nevertheless, Katiuscia Gay quickly recovered. After a few days she was able to run independently and was released after four weeks of rehabilitation.

The pre -Christmas period 2023 finally spent her family again. After recovery, she began to reorganize her life and ended stressful friendships. In the summer of 2024 she published a book about her illness entitled "Due to fear of freedom: my journey to healing". Today she feels mentally stronger and sees life more positive, even if it continues to face everyday challenges.

A meningooma, as in the case of Katiuscia Gay, is a tumor that arises in the brain's brain. Meningiomas are the most common form of brain tumors and make up almost 30 % of all brain tumors. These tumors usually grow slowly and often only show symptoms after years of symptoms. In many patients, they are discovered accidentally during MRI examinations, as Apollo Hospitals. While most meningiomes do not require immediate treatment, surgery is often necessary if there are signs of growth.
