Observe: Alligator meets a robot in the sewage system of Florida

It is an urban myth that has been persistent for decades: huge alligators that are exposed to pets populate the moist wastewater systems from big cities like New York.

Now the myth has become a reality - at least in Florida.

When engineers in the city of Oviedo sent a mobile robot camera to the underground to find out what was the cause of the random appearance of potholes on a street, they experienced a fairly surprise - a 1.5 meter long alligator that lurked in the cloudy water.

The big reptile was filmed in a rainwater tube on May 5th.

It was frightened by the robot camera, but after it looked briefly down, it was about and pulled back down the pipe.

The crew that used the mobile video camera initially believed that it was a big toad.

"At first they thought it was a toad, and in the video you can see two little shining eyes until you get closer. But when it turned, they saw the long cock of the alligator and followed him through the pipes," said officials in Oviedo, near the city of Orlando.

"In the video you can see how they were about 100 meters deep before the robot got stuck in a small recess and the alligator meandled."

"Thank God our crews have a robot," they said, warning the locals to keep themselves away from rain pipes and sewers.

How a newspaper from Florida put it: "One of the many reasons not to crawl into the rainwater sewer system: you may not be alone."

The city administration made a video of the unusual encounter with the heading online: "You heard about snakes in an airplane?" How about 'gator in a pipe?' "

urban legends about huge alligators who live in the sewage systems of American cities, formed the basis for a lock horror film called "Alligator" from 1980.

In the film, an alligator that was thrown into the sewage system as a child finally turns into a 36 -foot long and £ 2,000 pounds that the city terrorizes.

The danger that alligators represent in real life in Florida is too real and a series of attacks on humans have recently been.

In the past few months, an 85-year-old woman has been killed when she defended her dog and a 72-year-old man was bitten off.

Last year a man was killed on the banks of a lake in the city of Largo and an 80-year-old woman was killed by an alligator after falling into a pond in a country club near Sarasota. In 2016, a toddler was killed by an alligator in Walt Disney World.

Despite these incidents, the authorities of Florida assume that the likelihood of being seriously injured in an unprofitable alligator attack in the state is one to three million.
