concert: Depeche fashion surprised in the Olympic Stadium with Songliste

On Friday evening, the first of two concerts by Depeche Mode took place in the Berlin Olympic Stadium. The band surprised the fans with their song selection and caused enthusiasm. The Depeche Mode duo, consisting of Martin Gore and Dave Gahan, entered the stage to the Outro from "Speak to Me" and was illuminated by a huge "M". 70,000 people were enthusiastic about the performance of the band, although she was only in pairs, after the unexpected death of Andy Fletcher in May 2022.

Depeche fashion proved that you do not need an elaborate stage show or dancer to inspire the audience with your music. Songs like "Sister of Night" and "In Your Room" provided rhythmic nods and cheering fans. The band's new album, "Memento Mori", showed an unprecedented severe and melancholy. However, the Berlin fans were fascinated and applauded by this darkness.

Of course, the band also played the all-time favourites from the eighties and ninety, such as "Everything Counts" and "Walking in My Shoes". Dave Gahan moved through his opposed hair theatrically and whirled over the stage with spread out arms. The fans sang along with text and were enthusiastic about the energy on stage.

It was particularly surprising that Depeche Mode deviated from their usual setlist and played the songs "A Question of Lust" and "Soul with me" for their Berlin fans. They may want to show their special connection to Berlin because one of the songs was mixed into the Berlin Hansa Studios. The fans were enthusiastic and Gore thanked several times for their support.

The concert ended with the songs "Just Can’t Get Enough" and "Enjoy the Silence", which made for goosebumps. Singing, dancing and happy people filled the Olympic Stadium. It was an unforgettable evening for the Berlin fans of Depeche Mode.
