Evans wins Formula E race in Rome after violent crash

Title: Cassidy takes the lead in the World Cup rating after a dramatic accident during the race

The New Zealand racing driver Nick Cassidy took the lead in the World Cup ranking of the current season. With a total of 171 points, he now lies in front of the British driver Jake Dennis (166), Evans (151) and Pascal Wehrlein from Worndorf (144), who dealt with a seventh place in the title race.

The race had been overshadowed by a violent crash. Sam Bird initially lost control of his racing car and stood across the road. Sebastien Buemi could no longer avoid and hit the rear of the Jaguar. Shortly afterwards, Edoardo Mortara drove Frontal in Bird's car, who was hit and striped by other drivers with a partly large force.

Fortunately, everyone involved got away without major injuries. Bird and the other drivers were immediately examined. "It looks like the cars have done their jobs and ensured security," commented Jaguar team boss James Barclay on the ProSieben microphone.

Wehrleins Porsche was also slightly damaged during the accident, but he was able to continue the race. In contrast, his Portuguese team -mate Antonio Felix da Costa, whose car was causing serious damage.

Despite the drama and the risk of injury, Cassidy was the radiant winner of the day, since he now held the top position in the World Cup rating. With further exciting races, it remains to be seen whether he can hold this position until the end of the season.
