Fire in Brunstorf: Grain silo burns - large -scale use of the fire brigade

Ratzeburg (ots) - On Monday there was a fire in a grain silo just outside of Brunstorf in the Duchy of Lauenburg. The fire brigade was alerted at 1:00 p.m. and the operation quickly developed into a larger effort. Within a short time, the alarm level was increased from Feu2 to Feu5, which required the use of five fire trucks.

The burning silo consists of a total of 17 single silos, six of which are currently filled with grain. Fortunately, the changeable weather of the past few days was an advantage, since more silos might have been affected in better weather. Nevertheless, the amount of affected grain amounts to around 200 tons.

The difficulties for the approximately 200 emergency services are on the one hand in the fact that cereals have the property of sucking out and soaking up when using extinguishing water. In the worst case, this can lead to the bursting of the silo. Therefore, the water must be used carefully. On the other hand, the fire is at a height of 30 meters, which requires special measures. A telescopic mast vehicle was requested from Hamburg and used.

Despite the drone education, it is currently unclear how far the fire has entered the silos. Although there are on every single silo lid, they have been exposed to large heat for some time. It is currently completely unclear how this affects the inside.

The fire brigade continues to be used. If you have any questions, please contact the Hzgt district fire brigade association. Lauenburg, Thomas Grimm, by phone at 0160/1188910 or by email at press (at) kats-rz.de.
