Formula 1: Dangerous curve combination in Spa -Francorchamps - fatality with Belgian Grand Prix
The Grand Prize of Belgium is traditionally considered one of the highlights of the Formula 1 season. However, the route in SPA is also one of the most dangerous, especially on the basis of a certain point. The famous curve Eau Rouge and Raidillon always causes dangerous and even fatal accidents. This became clear again at the beginning of July when 18-year-old Dilano Van’t Hoff died in a race of the Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine. Formula 2 driver Anthoine Hubert also lost his life in 2019. Due to the confusing route and slope, it has already been demanded several times to make these curves safer. Although the runs around Eau Rouge and Raidillon have been expanded, the drivers are still traveling at top speed, which can lead to dangerous situations. The upcoming Grand Prize of Belgium promises tension and thrills on the dangerous route again. While the leader Max Verstappen describes Spa as his "favorite route" and rejects further structural changes, the Alpine driver Pierre Gasly demands more protection for the drivers. Gasly emphasizes that young talents should not be exposed to such a risk. No additional measures are provided for the upcoming race weekend, so that the drivers will once again grass with the highest risk from the dangerous curve combination. The race weekend in Spa-Francorchamps promises high tension, hopefully only in terms of sport. In addition, there will be a sprint race on Saturday at the Grand Prix of Belgium, which could replace classic qualifying and could provide even more excitement and chaos.
