Giorgia Meloni, a right -wing extremist native politician from Rome, who is expected to become Italy's first female President of Female next month, made the alleged attack "terrible propaganda", said her opponents.
The migrant from Guinea is said to have attacked the 55-year-old Ukrainian when she walked a street along the northern city of Piacenza at around 6 a.m.
It was not immediately clear whether the Ukrainian woman was a refugee who has come into the country in the past few months since the Russian invasion, or a resident - Italy has a large population of Ukrainians, many of whom work as cleaners and supervisors
A resident was witness to the alleged attack, called the police and filmed the asylum seeker when he pressed the woman to the ground. The 26-year-old Guineer was arrested by the police and taken into custody while the woman was taken to the hospital in shock.
The video was dealt with in detail by the Italian media and made it on Monday to the front page of at least one national newspaper.
Ms. Meloni, the chair of the post -fascist party "Brothers of Italy", which could result in the elections of September 25th as Prime Minister, quickly took up the alleged attack.
