Jamaica keeps France at zero at Women's World Cup
The French footballers are one of the fellow favorites for the title at the Women's World Cup. But in the first game they had to accept a damper against Jamaica. The Jamaicans achieved a historical goals against the Europeans. For Jamaica it was the first point win and the first game without a goal at a World Cup finals ever. While the players from Jamaica were happy, the mood in the French team was clouded. The new French coach Hervé Renard said that Jamaica gave everything and that they did not manage to score a goal.
In the game, it was shown that Jamaica's strong pressing inhibited the game structure of the French team. France had difficulty going on the offensive and staging the strikers. Both teams fought many duels, sometimes even too many. Football was still played, but none of the teams scored a goal in the first half. France increased the pressure in the second half, but still couldn't play a big chance. In the end it stayed with the goalless draw.
Despite the disappointing result, striker Eugenie Le Sommer was able to look forward to a personal success. With now 17 World Cup appearances, she is the French record player.
The next game for France will take place against Brazil, while Jamaica has to compete against Panama.
