Date: 02.07.2023
The former triathlon world champion Jan Frodeno had another great success in his farewell season. After his bike accident, he confirmed his rising form and celebrated his first victory. At the half-Ironman of the 70.3 series in his election home andorra, he prevailed against the short distance specialist Jonas Schomburg and the Spaniard Jordi Moya.
Frodeno, who is already 41 years old, the race was the first to finish after 4:25:47 hours. He was very satisfied after the race and explained that it felt good to be pain -free again. Frodeno described the victory as a further step on the way back to the top form. He also praised his competitor Schomburg and described him as a "machine on the bike".
The 2008 Olympic champion rose on the bike in Andorra as one of three persecutors of Schomburg. He finally caught up on the running route and pulled past his compatriot. Frodeno thus confirmed its aspiring form after fourth place at the Ironman European Championship in Hamburg.
The three -time world champion plans to end his career at the end of the season. Before that, however, he wants to compete at the World Cup in Nice, which takes place on September 9th. Frodeno had previously missed the catch-up World Cup in Utah because of a partial tear of the Achilles tendon and had to give up Roth in pain at the Challenge. After a bicycle accident in the summer, he even had to be operated three times and at times had concerns whether he could ever go back to normal.
