The police, which was called on the rural estate in Redmond near Albany in the southwestern corner of the state, was forced to shoot the loners after the paramedics prevented it from approaching the victim.
The man, an alpaca breeder, is said to have kept the three -year -old kangaroo as a pet.
Local media called him Peter Eades, 77, who founded the Agonis Alpaka stud in 1997. He was found by a member of his family with serious injuries and died at the scene.
Mr. Eades, a well -known animal lover, had raised the animal by hand because it was a boy.
Although fatal attacks by kangaroos are rare in humans, Aggression is not unusual in males.
Associate Professor Graeme Coulson, an expert for the behavior of kangaroos, said: "You have a lot of weapons, sharp nails and sharp teeth, and if you are driven into the tightness or are in any kind of need, this can certainly be dangerous."
"The problem with kangaroos and people is that we are both upright animals, we are on our own two legs, and such an upright attitude is a challenge for the male kangaroo," he told the ABC.
"They do not distinguish between humans and other kangaroos ... and this becomes particularly risky when the male grows and becomes larger and stronger, and then there can be such problems."
The last person who had previously died of a kangaroo attack was in 1936 when a 38-year-old man suffered serious head injuries when he tried to protect his dogs in New South Wales.
In July, a woman was injured by a kangaroo on a walk in Queensland, and in March a three -year -old girl was attacked in New South Wales.
Australia has an estimated kangaroo population of 50 million. In drought times, they are considered a pest for farmers. Many are cropped and sold because of their meat and skin, which contributes to an industry that is worth more than 50 million pounds per year.
