This evening Nile Rodgers performs with his band Chic in the city park in Hamburg. He shaped the disco era and still produces for greats such as Madonna, David Bowie, Mick Jagger, Duran Duran, Daft Punk and Pharell Williams.
Although producers are often in the shade, they are true figures of music. Names like Quincy Jones, Rick Rubin and George Martin are legends that have significantly shaped the history of music. One of these producers is Nile Rodgers, who is not as present in general as the other mentioned.
nile Rodgers is a virtuoso of the rhythm guitar and is considered the rhythm guitarist par excellence. He has been active as an accompanying musician for over 50 years and shows what the electrical guitar can do best: it has the angle and energy of a percussion instrument and at the same time plays tricky harmonies. For a long time, Nile Rodgers did not find an answer to how he played jazz he loves, with the pulsating beat of the clubs and at the same time could be commercially successful. He finally found this answer in the music of the illegal parties in the New York garage and underground clubs. At these parties he felt music that united: complexity, pop appeal, funk and r’n’B. Here he found the suction that attracted many people and did not exclude anyone.
nile Rodgers founded the band Chic and wrote with hits like "Le Freak" and "Good Times" story. The Song "Everybody Dance" became the first hit of the band in 1977 and represented the spirit of the 1970s. Chic and the disco era were a utopian design in an actually crisis-like period. Rodgers remembers that the United States was characterized by a huge economic flaut, similar to the great depression in the 1920s. The dazzling discophase of the late 70s closed directly to this time and offered people an escape from the dark prospects.
nile Rodgers also wrote the great hymns of the homosexuals, which are still celebrated today at queer parties. He wrote music history with songs like "We Are Family" for the band Sister Sledge and "I'm Coming Out" for Diana Ross. In the latter song, however, Diana Ross was initially skeptical and asked if it was a queer song and whether Rodgers wanted to ruin her career. Nile Rodgers recalls that he had never lied to an artist as he assured her that it was not a gay song.
The disco era was short and glittering, but Nile Rodgers is still active today. He produces for numerous well -known artists such as Madonna, David Bowie, Mick Jagger, Duran Duran, Daft Punk and Pharell Williams. With Daft Punk and Pharell Williams, he landed a global hit in the top ten in 2013 at the age of 60. At that time, Rodgers fought against a fatal cancer, but the song "Get Lucky" had a healing effect on him.
nile Rodgers is a true music legend that is thrilled with her music generations and is still active. If you want to experience it live, you have the opportunity to do so tonight in the Hamburg city park. A concert that should not be missed.
