Para World Cup: Bensusan and Floors get gold in athletics
Irmgard Bensusan successfully defended its title over 200 meters at the Para Athletics Championships in Paris. World record holder Johannes Floors also ran over 400 meters to gold - and just missed a new world record. Leon Schäfer won bronze over 100 meters in class T63.
The 32-year-old Bensusan from Leverkusen ran on Monday evening (July 17th, 2023) in the final of the start class T64 in 26.82 seconds and four years ago in Dubai to the gold medal. The renewed title came as a surprise because Bensusan reduced her training workload and had only hoped to be fourth to secure a slot for the Paralympics.
for Floors it was also a successful competition. He triumphed over 400 meters in the T64 start class and needed just three hundredths than his world record from Dubai. However, he had missed the title defense over the 100 meters. Floors showed emotionally after his victory and expressed compassion for his competitor Hunter Woodhall, who was broken when entering.
Nele Moos and Katrin Müller-Rottgard also attended the World Cup. Moos reached fourth place in the long jump and over 400 meters. However, the Leverkusen native is proud of her achievements and is happy about Leon Schäfer's bronze medal. Schäfer took third place in the final World Cup race over 100 meters.
With twelve medals (5x gold, 2x silver, 5x bronze), the German team exceeded the overall output from the previous World Cup 2019. The Para-Athletics Championships in Paris was considered a dress rehearsal for the Paralympics in the coming year, which will also take place in France's capital.
