Pringles-Shitstorm in Russia: taste of the victory triggers violent reactions
Title: Pringles records Shitstorm due to controversial packaging
The well -known chip manufacturer Pringles is currently faced with violent reactions in social networks. The shit storm was triggered by a video that allegedly comes from a Russian supermarket. The video shows a person who takes a pringles pack with the inscription "Co Bkycom победы", which means "with the taste of the victory".
Particularly controversial is another detail on the packaging: a symbol can be seen at the bottom of the edge that is interpreted as a Sankt Georgs band. The Sankt Georgs band is a Russian military badge and in times of the war of Russia against Ukraine a explosive symbol.
The authenticity of the video and the packaging are difficult to check. There is no corresponding packaging on the official Russian website of Pringles. In addition, the design of the chip box in the video does not correspond to the current logo of Pringles. However, the research showed that Pringles has already left the Russian market and stopped all investments there.
Regardless of this, numerous users used the video to reproach Pringles and accuse the chip manufacturer to support the war of Russia in Ukraine. Some even threaten not to buy Pringles products.
The public excitement shows how sensitive the topic of war symbolism and political controversy can be in connection with corporate brands. So far, Pringles has not responded to the allegations and the shitstorm.
It remains unclear whether the viral Preap pack is actually real and whether it is even connected to the American company. Pringles has not yet commented on this. If the packaging is available, it can no longer be attributed to Pringles because the company has already left the Russian market.
Overall, the case illustrates how quickly opinions can spread on social networks and how important it is to react sensitively to political and cultural issues for companies to avoid a shit storm. It remains to be seen whether and how Pringles will react to the allegations and the shitstorm.
