Prosthesis jumper Markus Rehm secures sixth World Cup gold despite the protest tunnel

prosthesis jumper Markus Rehm won his sixth title in series at the Para Athletics Championships in Paris. The 34-year-old triumphed in the T64 start class with a width of 8.49 meters and was again unreachable for the competition this time. Rehm himself was very satisfied after the competition and said that it was a great competition. He had set the goal of breaking the World Cup record, which he also succeeded.

However, Rehm had to fight with some difficulties during the event. Changing wind conditions and waiting due to race starts made the Situation difficult. In addition, Rehm was affected by the fall of his training partner Stylianos Malakopoulos from Greece, who has been his training partner for a year. The fall brought Rehm out of the concept because he worried about Malakopoulos. Nevertheless, he managed to manage the situation and ultimately won the title.

The trainer of the two athletes, the former javelin world champion Steffi Nerius, was proud of Rehm's performance and praised him for how he dealt with the difficult situation.

After the competition, the USA was protesting because they claimed that Rehm had worn illegal spikes under his shoe. However, the protest was withdrawn in the morning. Rehm said sadly that the protest came from the nation, of all people, with which he had a lot to do and which he helped. He emphasized that all athletes now have to pay attention to their spikes because he didn't know that this could play a role.

Rehm had set itself as a new dream destination of Mike Powell of 8.95 meters, but he could not break this record. Nevertheless, he improved his own World Cup record from 2015 by nine centimeters. In the event of major events in para-sport, Rehm has been unbeaten since 2011 and, in addition to six World Cup titles, was also able to win five EM triumph and three Paralympics gold medals in the long jump.

With his victory, Rehm was able to bring in three gold, two silver and three bronze medals to the German team at the Para Athletics World Cup. The World Cup continues until Monday and serves as a dress rehearsal for the Paralympics in the coming year, which will also take place in Paris. At the previous World Cup in Dubai in 2019, the German team won eleven times precious metal.
