show jumper Ludger Beerbaum ends career at the Chio in Aachen

On Sunday (02.07.2023) the show jumper Ludger Beerbaum announced when the Chio in Aachen was completed that he ended his sporting career. The 59-year-old Beerbaum, who comes from Detmold and is considered the most successful jumping rider in the world after Hans Günter Winkler, won four Olympic gold medals, eight gold medals at World and European Championships as well as nine German championship titles.

Beerbaum announced his farewell to the Aachen audience after grabping a microphone at the Aachen Grand Prix. He stole the show to the winner Marcus Ehning. Beerbaum explained that it was now time to make room for the younger generation. He thanked his audience and said that he was a pleasure to go this not easy step in the most beautiful tournament in the world.

Although Beerbaum was still undecided during the Chio when he should stop, he had already announced a few years ago not to ride any tournaments at the age of 60. He emphasized that he could look back on a great time as a rider and that it was a great honor to have developed the sport for 30 years.

his jumping colleague Philipp Weishaupt also recognized Beerbaum with superlatives and called him the best rider of all time. Beerbaum has announced that he will continue to be connected to equestrian sport by developing horses, occasionally participating in small tournaments, operating horse trade and organizing tournaments.

At the Aachen Grand Prix, Beerbaum took 25th place in his last competition. Already when the Chio kicks off he took 13th place and reached sixth place at the price of NRW.

Beerbaum raved about the atmosphere at the Chio in Aachen and named this place as the perfect place for its farewell. He thanked the audience for the extraordinary support during his 30-year career.
