Southern sugar goes into appeal, according to judgments in sugar cartel processes
In two pilot procedures for the so -called sugar cartel, the Mannheim district court has given judgments that have an impact on the companies concerned. One of these companies is southern sugar that now wants to appeal. A spokesman for Südzucker announced that no further explanations will be submitted during the ongoing procedure.
The Karlsruhe Higher Regional Court as well as the other two affected manufacturers Nordzucker and Pfeifer & Langen have not yet answered inquiries. According to the judgments, they are supposed to pay millions of times as compensation for Nestlé Deutschland AG and the Alois Müller GmbH & Co. KG dairy, since they have requested too high sugar prices after antitrust agreements.
The district court Mannheim has around 40 lawsuits from food and beverage manufacturers in this case alone, which require a total of hundreds of million euros. There are also complaints from dairies, pastries and delicatessen manufacturers in other parts of the country.
It remains to be seen how the further procedures will be in this context. The decisions of the Mannheim Regional Court could have a signal effect for further procedures that are made against the sugar cartel. It remains exciting whether the companies concerned can agree with the plaintiffs or whether there are further legal disputes.
The Südzucker stock (ISIN DE0007297004) may have lost value due to these developments. Investors and investors should therefore keep an eye on the current developments in order to adapt their decisions on the market accordingly.
