Sturm sweeps up over Berlin: Fire brigade in the state of emergency
On Monday evening, a violent storm occurred over Berlin and parts of Brandenburg. With wind speeds of up to 110 km/h, he moved a trace of devastation through the capital. The fire brigade had to call out the state of emergency because over 300 emergency calls were received. But despite the rapid commitment, not all messages could be processed yet, a spokesman said in the evening.
Even an S-Bahn was affected by the storm and derailed after it had driven over a fallen branch. Numerous passengers had to be brought to safety through ladders. Photos show the derailed train on Schönhauser Allee, on the tracks of which an branch was collided.
In addition to the rain, the storm also brought strong winds to rage in the streets of the city. Several branches broke through hurricane gusts in the entire urban area, and entire trees were also uprooted, for example in the Volkspark Friedrichshain. Part of the roof of a warehouse in Marienfelde mentioned the fire brigade as a further source of damage.
At the current time it is not known whether people were injured in the storm. However, the storm caused disorders in S-Bahn traffic. The road had to be closed in Wichertstraße in Prenzlauer Berg because a branch had fallen on it. The S-Bahn lines S2, S5, S41, S42, S8, S9, S45 and S3 in which train traffic was interrupted or restricted were particularly affected.
Fortunately in misfortune, a driver was in Wedding when a tree fell on her Ford. She was not injured. There were also tree falls in Berlin-Gesundbrunnen and Franklinstrasse in which vehicles were damaged. There is currently no information about injured people.
The zoo was not spared from the storms. Numerous trees have been uprooted, the fire brigade is now busy eliminating the weather damage.
