Title: Feat the monkey from the Basel Zoo - captured again after an hour
Basel, July 20, 2023-A VARI monkey from the Basel Zoo was able to free himself from his enclosure and went on a journey of discovery through the city. Fortunately, the animal was successfully captured after around an hour.
The run-out varier, a way threatened by extinction, belongs to the lemurs and originally comes from Madagascar. The animals only become about 50 centimeters tall and weigh around four kilograms. It is a black and white vari.
The incident occurred around 9 p.m. when the animal fled from its island in the Basel Zoo. It crosses streets at great speed and urge to discover, as the police report. Fortunately, there was no danger for the population.
The police followed the fleeting monkeys from the car and an employee of the zoo was called up to capture it again. Around 10 p.m. it was possible to take the outbreak back into custody.
The incident is not the first of this kind in the Basel Zoo. A monkey broke out a few months ago and fled towards the castle border. Even then, the animal could be captured quickly.
The group of five black and white Varis has been living in the Basel Zoo since 2019. In the wild they mainly eat fruits, while in the zoo they mainly receive vegetables that resemble the composition of wild fruits.
It was an exciting night for the authorities in Basel, because at the same time the authorities in Berlin searched for a lion to roam the forests.
The incident shows that unusual animal eruptions can also take place in the urban environment. Fortunately, the escaped monkey could be captured quickly and without danger for the population.
