Traffic chaos on the Gotthard north portal: traffic jam under 10 km

holiday traffic ensures traffic jams at the Gotthard

The holiday traffic towards Ticino and Italy continues unabated in the last week of July. On Friday afternoon, the traffic in front of the Gotthard North portal in Göschenen was up to twelve kilometers long. Between the first field and Göschenen, travelers needed almost two hours longer to the south than in a normal traffic situation. However, the rain length was reduced to seven kilometers in the course of the evening and the waiting time was just over an hour.

Patience was also required in the opposite direction. Between Quinto Ti and Airolo Ti, the return travel traffic was dammed up to five kilometers, which led to a loss of time of 50 minutes. In front of the southern portal, the rack length increased something in the evening and reached a length of six kilometers at 5:30 p.m. In this case, the waiting time was up to an hour.

The Touring Club Switzerland (TCS) informed about the current traffic situations on Twitter. However, the situation on the Gotthard was not the only challenge for traffic. In Ukheim AG, too, there was a large police operation on Thursday, in which three dead people were found in a garage. The cause of death has not yet been known, but there is nothing to indicate a homicide.

Despite the traffic disruptions, the police reported that there was no danger to the population. The fire brigade was also on site, but a search was not triggered. More information about the situation in Uerkheim has not yet been disclosed by the police.
