TSV Straßberg: Thawed too late – relegation threatens after another setback!
The 2024/25 state league season was a real rollercoaster ride for TSV Straßberg, which began with serious setbacks. After two defeats at the start of the season, they finally achieved their first win in the derby against FC 07 Albstadt 2-1, but this success could not initiate the turnaround. In the following weeks the team suffered four defeats in a row. Marc-Philipp Kleiner, who took over as assistant coach, reflected on the unnecessary defeats against Dornhan and Nehren and emphasized that the offensive only scored five goals in eleven games. Despite good scoring opportunities, the hoped-for points failed to materialize, a frustrating situation for the team and its supporters. Straßberg finished the first half of the season with just six points and a disastrous goal difference of 7:30.
A look back at the first half of the season makes it clear that there were numerous close games. However, a respectable 1-1 draw against Croatia Reutlingen, which resulted in their first unbeaten streak in two games, was followed by a sobering 1-5 defeat against Wittendorf. The winter break went into further setbacks against Rottenburg, Tuttlingen and Empfingen, and player-coach Stefan Bach decided to resign. Under Kleiner, who took the reins, the first games of the second half of the season were also lost before a 3-0 home win against Harthausen and another 3-0 away win in Dornhan fueled hope.
Successes and setbacks in the second half of the season
A bright spot was the 2-0 win in the derby against Frommern on May 10, 2025, which reduced the gap to the relegation place to just two points. Leon Mathauer and Raffael Keinath contributed the goals, with the last goal coming in stoppage time. In this emotional game, the team did not allow themselves to be disturbed by referee Tobias Rollnik's controversial decisions.
Despite the successes, setbacks followed again. After the important derby win, Straßberg had to admit defeat 0-5 against Croatia Reutlingen, which Kleiner found bitter. Nevertheless, they managed to get their last win of the season against Wittendorf (1-0). The finale of the season was sealed with a 1:2 defeat against league leaders Rottenburg and a 3:3 draw against Tuttlingen. Kleiner said that points were collected against direct competitors, but the performances against stronger teams could not be converted into something countable.
Outlook for the new season
The relegation from the national league is perceived as sad and frustrating by everyone involved. Nevertheless, those responsible are trying to set an early course for the coming season. The performances of the second half of the season have shown the potential that the goal of promotion as quickly as possible can now be tackled.
The coming season will be exciting. In the newly thrown together season 2 of the national football league, 16 teams will fight for the title, and TSV Straßberg can boast a breath of fresh air and a newly formed team. It remains to be seen whether they can find their good hand next year.
