ULM Football falls to Southern Miss 21-49: A stormy duel!
In an exciting duel at the M.M. Roberts Stadium, the ULM Warhawks suffered a bitter defeat against the Southern Miss Golden Eagles on October 25, 2025. The final score was 49-21, bringing ULM to 3-5 overall and 1-3 in the Sun Belt Conference. Southern Miss, on the other hand, can proudly look back on a record of 6-2, including 4-0 in the conference.
The game took place in difficult conditions, with continuous rain challenging players from both sides. ULM initially got off to the better start - Landon Graves, making his first career start, threw a 4-yard pass to Tyler Griffin to give the Warhawks a 7-0 lead. But the Golden Eagles didn't take long to ask and answered promptly.
The Golden Eagles' answer
Southern Miss quickly got going as quarterback Braylon Braxton threw a series of accurate passes. What was particularly noticeable was that in this game, for the first time this season, the Golden Eagles scored their first touchdown in the opening period, through Matt Jones, who scored a 4-yard run to tie the score at 7-7. As the first half progressed, it was Braxton who not only directed the air attack, but also threw four touchdowns himself and reached 248 yards without reporting a turnover statistic.
Although ULM held strong in the first half, scoring another touchdown from Zach Palmer-Smith to cut the deficit to 21-14, Southern Miss took advantage of the Warhawks' mistakes to take the lead again before halftime.
Decline in the second half
The second half was a tough test for ULM. Southern Miss dominated and scored significantly more points in the final two quarters, while the Warhawks only managed seven points. A muffed punt was particularly painful, allowing the Golden Eagles to score another touchdown and finally tipping the game in their favor. With this result, they solidified their place in the bowl game race, their first since 2022.
The stats speak for themselves: ULM was only able to gain 312 total yards, while Southern Miss broke the 400-yard mark and totaled 445 yards. Despite three sacks against Southern Miss' offensive line, ULM's defense was unable to achieve any significant success. Defensive leader Noah Flemmings had seven tackles, two of them solo, making him the game's defensive standout.
Outlook for the upcoming games
ULM will have its next opportunity to prove itself when the Old Dominion Monarchs visit Monroe for the Military Appreciation Game on November 1, 2025. The Warhawks now have to give everything they have to go into the remaining games of the season with a better performance.
The upcoming matchups for Southern Miss are: November 8th against Arkansas State, November 15th against Texas State, November 22nd at South Alabama and the conclusion on November 29th against Troy. Golden Eagles fans can look forward to more exciting games, while ULM has to do everything it can in the next few days to emerge from the crucial slump.
