Bamberg Children's University: Adventure with dinosaurs and detectives!
The Bamberg Children's University, which has been offering lectures for young discoverers between 9 and 12 years since 2003, has now opened their registration for the 2025 summer semester. From now on, interested children can take part in www.uni-bamberg.de/kinderuni/ and explore exciting topics.
The lecture series of the Otto Friedrich University Bamberg begins on May 10, 2025 with the topic ** dinosaurs **. Dr. Oliver Wings, an experienced vertebrate paleontologist and head of the Bamberg Natural History Museum, will give young listeners an insight into the world of dinosaurs. The focus is on the everyday life of a dino researcher, new knowledge, original fossils and excavation methods. This interesting lecture takes place in the lecture hall U7/01.05 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.
other exciting topics
The second lecture entitled ** supermarket detectives ** will take place on May 17, 2025. Dominik Henkel, who works at the Chair of Business Administration, will present a market research experiment to the children in which they test tastes and evaluate packaging. Due to the high demand, there are currently only places available on the waiting list, the lecture also takes place from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the lecture hall U5/00.24.
On May 24, 2025, the third lecture follows, which deals with the topic ** secure passwords **. Prof. Dr. Dominik Herrmann will show the audience how they form safe passwords and what protective measures are necessary to protect their data. This lecture takes place at the same time as the first two in the lecture hall U7/01.05.
cooperation and development
The Bamberg Children's University is not only an important part of the university offers, but is also organized in cooperation with the Mediengruppe Upper Franconia and the Franconian Day. The Bamberg Natural History Museum is new in the summer semester 2025 as an additional cooperation partner. This initiative follows a nationwide trend in which many institutions want to promote access to science for children, similar to the successful series of lectures by the University of Tübingen in summer 2002, when 5,000 children have already inspired questions such as "Why are dinosaurs extended?" answered.
The children's university not only offers a great learning offer, it also enables young listeners to ask questions and actively participate in research processes themselves. Access to the lectures takes place in presence, although adults are unfortunately not approved as listeners. This should promote concentration and interactivity among children and enable intensive learning.
For parents and children who are interested in comprehensive education and in the world of science, the Bamberg Children's University is an excellent opportunity to discover exciting topics.
