Hit-and-run in Ansbach: Unknown people damage cars and disappear!
An unpleasant incident occurred on the tranquil Heilig-Kreuz-Strasse in Ansbach on the night of September 4, 2025. A 19-year-old vehicle owner discovered that his red Mazda CX-5 was damaged. Unknown perpetrator chose to leave after the incident without complying with legal obligations. The estimated property damage is around 500 euros, which can be classified as minor property damage in such an incident. For such amounts, the public prosecutor's office may decide to potentially discontinue the proceedings. Nevertheless, those injured should be encouraged to come forward in order to identify possible perpetrators, as this is an important step in the jurisprudence.
Unfortunately, in Ansbach it didn't stop with this one incident. In another evidence scenario, an accident occurred on the B13 when a 68-year-old driver from the southern district of Merkendorf was traveling towards Ansbach. In the area of the Willendorf junction, the man's left wing mirror came into contact with what was presumably an oncoming van. While the injured party was forced to stop and call the police, the unknown driver continued his journey without paying any attention to the incident.
Legal consequences for traffic offenders
If someone flees the scene of an accident without permission, there are legal consequences. Section 142 of the Criminal Code states that leaving the scene of an accident without permission is a criminal offense and the punishment can be up to three years in prison or a fine. The amount of damage has a major influence on the legal consequences, because a fine or driving ban is only possible if the amount of damage is above the trivial limit of 25 euros. Significant property damage that has legal consequences often starts at amounts starting at 1,000 euros, and courts have in various cases set legal limits for “significant property damage” that can fluctuate (for example, 1,300 euros in Berlin or 1,800 euros in Hamburg) and may even be higher in the future.
The distinction between minor and significant damage plays a crucial role. In the case of minor damage, the public prosecutor's office may drop the case, while in the case of higher levels of damage, a conviction could usually lead to a driving ban. The risk of losing insurance coverage cannot be ignored either, which can be a serious problem for many drivers.
Call for citizens' help
The Ansbach police station is asking the public for any relevant information about both incidents. Witnesses can call 0981/3576574-0. Particularly in such crimes, which often occur due to carelessness and then lead to a hit-and-run, information can be crucial in holding the perpetrators accountable and preventing future incidents. Such acts should not go unpunished, and every tip counts in order to make traffic areas safer.
With that in mind, stay alert and civilized on the road!
