Chemnitz mathematician shine at the international AI conference in Canada
The Technical University of Chemnitz has pleased that two of its mathematics working groups have submitted contributions to the International Conference on Machine Learning (ICML). This significant conference will take place from July 13th to 19th, 2025 in the Vancouver Convention Center in Canada. This is an important step for the university, since only 3,260 of the work submitted from a total of 12,107 was accepted, which underlines the high competition and the quality of the submitted work. Prof. Dr. Martin Stoll and Prof. Dr. Sebastian Neumayer are the two leading scientists who are involved in this project.
Prof. Dr. Martin Stoll examines a AI-based model that aims to solve dynamic traffic problems through the use of deep neuronal networks. The goal of his work is to approximate unknown parameters in traffic models. His research is supported by a team from the University of Chemnitz, including Max Winkler, Jan Blechschmidt and Tom-Christian Riemer, as well as Prof. Dr. Jan Pietschmann from the University of Augsburg.
research in image reconstruction
Prof. Dr. Sebastian Neumayer, on the other hand, works on an algorithm to reconstruction of measurements made of measurement data. This algorithm is widely used in medicine and materials science. In contrast to deep neuronal networks, it offers an improved reconstruction and is easier and more interpretable. Neumayer is supported by his team, which Erich Kobler (JKU Linz) and Mehrsa Pourya as well as Michael our (Epfl Lausanne).
Both professorships are also actively combined in the master's degree in "Data Science" at the TU Chemnitz, mathematics, computer science and data analysis. This course is particularly valuable because it offers practical insights through cooperation with companies and modern technical infrastructure.
context of the international conferences
The ICML is considered one of the most important forums for research in the field of machine learning and artificial intelligence. The diversity of the submitted work demonstrates the progress and innovations that take place in these areas. In addition to the ICML, there are numerous other relevant conferences in 2025, which serve as platforms for the exchange and networking of researchers, academics and practitioners. These include the AI4 2025 and the international conference for artificial intelligence and machine learning.
The IEEE conference is one of the other important events for safe and trustworthy machine learning (SATML) and the CDAO west coast. These conferences deal with the topics of security and ethics in ML systems up to the latest trends in AI transformation. Such events are essential to reflect on the current state of development in the field of machine learning and show future directions.
