Bee rescue up in the trees: fire brigade Bamberg in action!

On May 2, 2025, the Bamberg fire brigade was called for an unusual emergency. A bee colony had strayed into the crown of a chestnut in Schützenstrasse, which presented the emergency services with a special challenge. The fire brigade used a turntable ladder to save the bee colony at a height of about ten meters. A beekeeper present was put into position with a rescue basket to put the bee colony into a box with his queen. This box was left on the ground so that the remaining workers had the opportunity to join again. The beekeeper took over the care of the bee people, who ensured that the bees can stay healthy and find back to their original place, such as Infranken.de reported

The Bamberg fire brigade not only shows extraordinary achievements in missions such as this, but also in training and practice activities. The youth fire brigades Bamberg and Reuth carried out a joint 24-hour exercise, which was originally planned for March 2020, but had to be postponed due to the corona pandemic. Presence exercises were resumed in the middle/at the end of 2022, which led to the new planning of the event. During the exercise in the Reuth fire brigade house, 40 young people and six vehicles were used, including MultiPurpose Vehicles (MZF) and extinguishing vehicles from both cities, such as the Fire Brigade Bamberg

successful rescue campaigns in the exercise

The exercise started with the first use to save several missing persons in the forest, which was supported by the rescue dog squadron of the Weilersbach fire brigade. Five injured people were successfully saved. After a quiet evening, several alarms followed in the morning, including to a surface burn that was quickly brought under control. Alarming to a door opening, in which dense smoke came out of a building, also required quick action. Fully alarm was triggered for the youth fire brigades Bamberg and Reuth to carry out a person search and the simulated fire fighting.

The exercise ended with the rescue of two people from the burning building and the establishment of an injury collecting place. District fire council Oliver Flake and city fire councilor Florian Kaiser were on site to observe the final exercise. After the missions, the tasks were explained and a group picture. The participants were exhausted, but proud of their performance. The youth center of the Reuth fire brigade and the city youth fire brigade in Bamberg have already planned further joint activities to promote young fire brigade.

membership numbers at a glance

The importance of exercises and practical training is also underlined by the statistics of the youth fire brigade. At the end of the year, care is taken to record the number of members for 2024. The reporting annual data are activated and the respective state associations provide information about the deadlines. Anyone who needs a new password can request this via the "Forget password" function. Even if questions arise about the statistics, support from a manual and FAQs in the statistics portal is offered, which can be accessed at youth fire brigade
