Corpus Christi processions in Bamberg: City buses must be rerouted!
With today's date in the calendar, June 14, 2025, an important religious event for the city of Bamberg is approaching: the Corpus Christi procession. This takes place not only in the city of Bamberg, but also in the neighboring community of Gaustadt, which of course has an impact on the public transport network. Like on the side of Wiesentbote reported, there will be both diversions and delays on bus routes affected by the processions.
In particular, the urban celebrations on June 15, 2025 are on the agenda. This affects lines 901, 908 and 912, which could experience possible delays. The large Corpus Christi procession, which will lead from the cathedral church through the city on June 19, 2025, will also bring further changes. During this time, from the start of operations until around 12 p.m., numerous bus routes are subject to diversions.
Changed routes and stops
For passengers this means the following: Line 904 will be rerouted out of town via the train station. This means that the “Lange Straße” to “Stadtwerke” stops will no longer be available. Line 906 will also be rerouted, with no stops from “Lange Straße” to “Mußstraße” in the direction of the city center and “Mußstraße” to “Markusplatz” for the transfer in the opposite direction. Line 910 provides for a diversion via the Münchner Ring, whereupon stops “Lange Straße” to “Domschule” and “Jakobsplatz” to “Schönleinsplatz” will be deleted. Line 916 follows a similar diversion via the train station with correspondingly no stops.
The Corpus Christi procession in Gaustadt will also take place on June 19th from around 8:45 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., and lines 906 and 916 are also affected by delays. Expect a lively atmosphere as the celebrations get into full swing.
A festival with great tradition
But what exactly is being celebrated here? The feast of Corpus Christi, which is celebrated in many parts of the world - especially in Bavaria and Austria - has a deep-rooted tradition. The origins of the festival go back to the Belgian nun Juliana of Liège. Their vision led to Pope Urban IV establishing the festival to honor the body of the Lord, as the Costume Bible explained. In this context, the expressiveness of the celebrations can also be felt: magnificent traditional costumes, floral offerings and impressive flower carpets characterize the image.
The streets are festively decorated, and the sound of musicians and the sight of mountain shooters or firecrackers add to the solemnity of the occasion. In cities like Vienna and Salzburg, the processions are also very important, with a festive pontifical mass and moving processions through the old town. In Bamberg and the surrounding area, these celebrations are not only a religious event, but they also reflect the local culture and the solidarity within the community Archdiocese of Bamberg informed.
So if you have the opportunity, you shouldn't miss the Berlin Corpus Christi procession. You can feel the community connection and the commitment of the people in this festival. Let's look forward to vibrant colors and beautiful sounds, as well as some diversions and delays on the transport network!
