Modernization of the Oberland stations: Electrification by 2031!

The train stations in the Oberland are faced with comprehensive modernization and electrification. This was confirmed by the Parliamentary State Secretary Sören Bartol at the request of the Green Bundestag member Karl Bär. The aim of the measures is to bundle the restrictions during the construction work in order to minimize the effects on passengers. The electrified routes are to be realized from Holzkirchen to the end stations in the Oberland by 2031, while the renovation of the train stations is already planned for 2030, such as Deutsche Bahn Planning the BUND and Free State the installation of almost 1,000 kilometers of new overhead lines. The goal is to electrify over 70% of the rail network. The remaining routes should be operated with hybrid, battery or hydrogen features.

Specifically, large projects in the Federal Transport Infrastructure Plan are planned in northeast Bavaria, which are intended to significantly improve driving. These include:

  • Electrification of the 180-kilometer north-south route between Hof and Regensburg.
  • Electrification of routes to the Czech Republic via the Pegnitztal and Marktredwitz as well as via Amberg, Schwandorf and Cham.
  • Electrification of the railway line to the Schnaittachtal east of Nuremberg for better integration into the S-Bahn system.

Development of the Oberland network

The Oberland network is also affected as part of the electrification projects, which includes a 85-kilometer route between Munich and Lenggries, Tegernsee and Bayrischzell. The measures that are implemented there contribute to improving the regional transport infrastructure.

These comprehensive restructuring and modernization are in line with the efforts to make rail traffic in Germany more efficient and environmentally friendly, as in the explanations of the dzsf . Objectives: reducing CO2 emissions and increasing capacity in local transport.
