Cycling adventure: DAV Eichstätt conquers the heights of South Tyrol!

On August 14, 2025, the cyclists of the DAV Eichstätt-Neuburg will face an exciting challenge. On their journey through the picturesque landscapes of South Tyrol they reach the first mountain stages on the way to the twin towns of Bolca and Montegalda. The group of 18 enthusiastic cyclists didn't allow themselves a day of rest and mountain stages three and four are on the agenda. The Danube Courier reports that these stages take the team through the impressive Dolomites.

The day tour on the third day takes you over a route from Valle di Cadore to Agordo, 56 kilometers long. This route is considered “short and crisp” and has a few surprises in store: passages with a gradient of nine percent and a massive 4,000 meters in altitude not only require cyclists to be in good physical condition, but also an enormous amount of stamina. But the mood remains good even with these climbs. Passing magnificent peaks such as Antealo, Monte Pelmo and Civetta, the route offers breathtaking views - a demanding but incredibly rewarding challenge for cyclists.

The pinnacle of adventure

On the fourth day the queen stage comes: the cyclists set off from Agordo to Asiago, a distance of an impressive 110 kilometers. Here, around 2,400 meters of altitude await the group, which has to face the steep climb to the Asiago plateau. With an average gradient of five percent, participants feel almost like they are at the Giro d'Italia, as a stage there also had this climb. Not only is athletic performance required, but also a good level of team spirit, because in a small village there is a well-deserved lunch break in the back yard of a butcher's shop. The place has the atmosphere of an abandoned western town, and the quick preparation of the national dish, pasta, provides a reward after hard kilometers.

South Tyrol itself presents itself as a true paradise for cyclists. The region is known for its impressive peaks and picturesque landscapes. Komoot highlights that cycling tours are particularly popular from spring to autumn, especially in Vinschgau and Meraner Land. Here the cycle paths lead through blooming apple orchards, lush vineyards and enchanting medieval towns - an excellent opportunity to experience the beauty of the region up close.

Equipment and infrastructure for cyclists

The cycle path network in South Tyrol is not only well developed, but also well maintained. Suedtirol.com informs that cycle paths are generally easy to manage and are suitable for families as well as for leisure cyclists and demanding mountain bikers. The region offers numerous opportunities to choose the best stages and sometimes continue your journey by train. Bicycle rentals and e-bike charging stations are available in the numerous towns along the routes, which makes the tours even easier. A picnic at the mountain lakes is not only a joy on hot summer days, but also makes the trip unforgettable.

This makes it clear: the route from Eichstätt to Bolca and Montegalda is not only a sporting adventure for the cyclists, but also a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the hospitality and regional specialties of South Tyrol. No matter whether you face the challenges in the mountains or prefer the gentle valleys - every cyclist will get their money's worth here!
