Fraudulent roofer couple tries to trick 94-year-old man in Neufahrn!
A disturbing incident occurred last week in the small community of Neufahrn that highlights the dangers that older people sometimes face in everyday life. Two unknown men tried to defraud a 94-year-old pensioner by pretending to have to repair a damaged roof. The two fraudsters rang the doorbell of the senior citizen and told him that roof tiles were damaged, which quickly aroused suspicion among the resident. The pensioner let the two men into his house, but one of them went into the attic while the other tried to talk to the senior citizen. Fortunately, the 94-year-old noticed the suspicious activities and let the suspected fraudsters leave without loot South Germans reported.
This incident is not the first of its kind in Neufahrn. At the end of October, two men were caught attempting a similar trick. Here the situation turned out to be particularly perfidious: an 83-year-old senior was also approached while one of the perpetrators distracted him and the other searched the apartment for a valuable coin collection. Despite the older man's attention, the unknown suspects managed to escape with the collected goods.
Fraud protection for older people
The police repeatedly point out the dangers, which particularly affect older people. In this context, the information brochure “ Live safely in old age " is recommended. This brochure contains 72 pages full of useful tips to protect yourself from various crimes. Among other things, it addresses the dangers that lurk at the front door, such as fake police officers or fake emergencies. There are also numerous tricks on the telephone, such as the infamous grandchild trick or false promises of prizes, which you need to guard against.
The brochure provides valuable advice to raise awareness of such scams and encourage older people to remain suspicious if something is not quite right. Neighbors can support each other and act as an additional security measure. A good neighborly relationship can often be the best way to protect each other from possible dangers.
Scene from the everyday life of the older generation: While trust is often high, the damage caused by fraudsters' tricks can be immense. It is therefore important that relatives and friends discuss the topic of security with their older family members and inform them about current scams. Anyone looking for further information will find references to advice centers and the WEISSER RING victim support facility in the same brochure.
