Bavarian State Exhibition 2026: Music connects Freyung!
There will be music in Freyung in 2026! A few days ago, the transition between the Stadtplatzcenter and the TonYversum building was completed, which further advances preparations for the upcoming Bavarian state exhibition “Music in Bavaria”. This exhibition is hosted by House of Bavarian History organized and will take place from April 25th to November 8th, 2026. The aim is to present a musical journey of discovery that is both varied and touching.
The central exhibition motif, which has now been presented, positions music as a unifying element of culture. In this first state exhibition that deals exclusively with music, both traditional folk music and contemporary genres such as punk and rock will find their place. Interactive, hands-on activities and live acts are also planned, giving visitors the opportunity to become active themselves and experience the diversity of Bavarian music history. Find out more about this and the concept of the exhibition HDBG.
A colorful program awaits visitors
Curtain up for a program that shows the entire spectrum of music in Bavaria! From orchestral and festival performances to pop events and musical cabaret - the event will present not only works by famous artists, but also unknown pieces of music. Visitors can look forward to original instruments, sound spaces and interactive audio worlds. There are live concerts every day in various locations, from city squares to idyllic forest clearings. That's what Bavaria sounds like and that promises an exciting exchange of talent from the region!
A highlight of the opening will be a film in the Stadtplatzcenter multiplex. In addition, a “sound bridge” leads to the stage show “Music in Bavaria with all the senses”. The visual design in particular appeals to a younger audience with meandering musical lines and trendy colors. This creative direction is evident in the poster motif, which was developed by the Salzburg office “wir sind artisten” and the exhibition designer Fritz Pürstinger. It shows, among other things, a violinist and an accordion player who represent Bavarian musical culture.
A science center after the exhibition
The Bavarian State Exhibition can be described as a new era for Freyung. After a decade, the state exhibition is back in Lower Bavaria, and not without reason. From 2027, a science center on the topics of sound, sound, music and hearing will be built in the Pröbstl House, which is currently being renovated. This innovative project shows the commitment to cultural education and links the past with the future of our musical culture. The mayor Dr. Olaf Heinrich and Art and Science Minister Markus Blume have confirmed this vision with their signatures.
Freyung is ready for the musical journey! With a wealth of experiences and the opportunity to experience Bavarian music history up close, the state exhibition will be a complete success. It remains exciting to see whether and how visitors will be enchanted by the sounds of Bavaria.
