Donauwörth and Günzburg: Future forum for garden shows gets underway!
An exciting funding conference was held in Donauwörth and Günzburg, which is all about the upcoming state garden shows in 2028 and 2029. This event, to which high-profile representatives from Bavarian state ministries, the government of Swabia and the Bavarian state parliament were invited, was about exploring possible funding opportunities and coordinating key projects. [Augsburger Allgemeine](https://www.augsburger- Allgemeine.de/donauwoerth/foerdermittelkonzept-fuer-die-landesgartenschau-donauwoerth-und-guenzburg-mit-hochkaraetigen- Representativen-112706627) reports that the focus of the discussions was on urban development, ecological upgrading as well as sustainable mobility and climate adaptation measures.
The response was consistently positive: everyone present agreed on the appeal of the state garden shows and their possible positive effects on the region. Donauwörth's mayor Jürgen Sorré was pleased with the constructive discussions that led to concrete funding opportunities. Particular emphasis was placed on the sensible use of funding programs in the areas of urban development, the environment, tourism and infrastructure.
Vision for the State Garden Show 2028
The plans for the State Garden Show in Donauwörth in 2028 aim to combine ecological responsibility with urban development impulses and design quality. As LGS reports, new access to the water and inner-city path connections are to be created in order to strengthen the city's identity. These measures are intended to contribute to the sustainable development of the region beyond the event year.
The first steps towards realization are already in full swing. Citizens are invited to actively participate in the planning, although the draft planning still has to be approved by the city council and supervisory board. The central ideas include the development of an ensemble of exciting open spaces with individual character and a lively Danube Park, which is intended to transform the former folk festival square into a new city center. The Wörnitz meadows and the Wörnitz Park are also to be further developed in a natural way.
Connection and accessibility
Another highlight of the planning are two new bridges that will lead over the Danube and Wörnitz. These bridges are intended not only to improve inner-city connections, but also to promote walking and cycling. Particularly noteworthy is the Danube Bridge, which invites you to linger with its gentle bend and inviting superstructure. The planned measures, which also include the connection to the northern bank and the protection of the trees on the southern bank, show that a good hand for nature and urban development will be demonstrated here.
To ensure that the process continues to be transparent, Bayerische Landesgartenschau GmbH will initiate the next steps under the leadership of Petra Pintscher. If you have any questions, please contact her petra.pintscher@lgs.de available.
