German director Mascha Schilinski inspires Cannes with her film!

Cannes, Frankreich - From May 13th to 24th, 2025, the International Film Festival of Cannes takes place, a festival of outstanding importance, which has been celebrated annually in the picturesque backdrop of the Palais of the Festival et des congrès on the Côte d’Azur since 1946. This year the German director Mascha Schilinski is particularly the focus, as she goes into the race for the coveted golden palm with her second feature film "Look in the sun". Schilinski, born in Berlin in 1984, is the only German director in the main competition, which makes her nomination a special highlight.

"Look in the sun" is a generation portrait that illuminates the life of several women on a farm in the Altmark. These different fates combine in the story of four women who come from different epochs and experience their childhood and youth on the same farm. This multi -layered story not only stands out through their female perspectives, but also through the profound examination of the past of the protagonists.

The German film scene is also represented in Cannes by several remarkable contributions. Fatih Akin shows his film "Amrum" in the side row and Christian Petzold presents "Miroirs No. 3" in the Quinzaine des Cinéastes. August Diehl shines in "The disappearance of the Josef Mengele". In the context of this variety of talents, the festival is headed by jury President Juliette Binoche, who is responsible for the award ceremony this year.
