Dancing Festival 2025: A historic celebration in Kaufbeuren from July 17th to 28th!

Finally it's that time again! From July 17th to 28th, 2025, the city of Kaufbeuren will be transformed into a lively festival of tradition and history - the dance festival is just around the corner! This unique city festival, which seamlessly follows on from a centuries-old tradition, is considered the oldest children's festival in Bavaria and attracts many visitors every year. Allgäu newspaper reports that under the motto “Children play the history of their city” the fascination for young and old comes to life.

A highlight of the festival is the spectacular entry scene on Sunday, which recreates the visit of Emperor Maximilian to Kaufbeuren. This impressive performance will take place on July 20th at 1:30 p.m. and is a central part of the pageant, which shows the history of Kaufbeuren from its founding to the early 20th century. There are around 1,850 children in historical costumes, more than 170 horses, numerous carriages and 36 floats taking part. Wikipedia explains that the pageant is one of the most impressive elements of the festival.

Opening ceremony and program

The opening ceremony on July 17th at 7:30 p.m. in the Rondell at Tätzelfestplatz promises a mixture of theater performance, music and the traditional Ttanzelfest fanfare. Admission to the opening begins at 6:30 p.m., with places limited to 1,000 people. If the weather doesn't cooperate, the event will be moved to the Energie Schwaben Arena. In addition, camp life, which begins on July 18th at 7 p.m., will offer a vivid picture of historical city life during the time of Emperor Maximilian. A festive hustle and bustle that attracts countless visitors to the old town!

On July 19th, the Häfelesmarkt begins at 10 a.m., followed by a beer tapping at 1 p.m. and the entry of the festival host. After a day full of colorful stalls and culinary delights, dances continue in the roundabout. The extensive program for the following days offers a variety of music and entertainment options. Badges are necessary for entry to the main events and the sale of these badges represents the club's main source of income.

Arrival and entertainment

Despite the expected crowds, getting there is easy, as the club recommends traveling by bike, on foot or by bus. The use of free dance festival buses ensures that visitors can easily get to the festival mile. The fairground, which has numerous rides such as the bumper scooter and the “Phoenix” attraction, also provides a bit of a thrill.

The dance festival is therefore not only a highlight in Kaufbeuren's event calendar, but also a festival that brings history to life and connects generations. Wikipedia emphasizes that the festival, whose roots go back to the 15th century, has a special place in the hearts of the population. Take the opportunity to experience this colorful spectacle with all its facets and look forward to a final fireworks display that will be a fitting end to every dance festival!
