Inclusion playground in Miesbach: A model of success for all children!
In Miesbach, the newly designed inclusion playground in Nordgraben has developed into a real meeting place for children and parents within a year. Mayor Gerhard Braunmiller recently described the area as a “cross-district pilot project” that could serve as a model for other communities. During a round of discussions in which numerous experts such as Elisabeth Neuhäusler, the representative for the disabled, and Markus Mengual, father of an autistic son, took part, the positive response to the playground became clear. Mercury reports.
The adventure inclusion playground concept focused on creating a play area that is not only accessible to children with disabilities, but also meets the needs of all age groups. There are no tripping hazards in the new playground and the equipment is barrier-free so that both older children and small children can play together. With its wide variety of play equipment, the space promotes exchange between children from different backgrounds. The city of Miesbach highlights that the idea and implementation emerged from a committed working group.
Positive feedback and wishes
Feedback from parents, particularly those with children with disabilities, has been consistently positive. Markus Mengual reported on a lively exchange between the parents, which is intended to strengthen social cohesion. However, there are also wishes: the lack of a disabled parking space has been discussed and appropriate markings have already been commissioned. In addition, an awning is planned over the small children's area to create the desired shade. Mercury highlights the suggestions.
The Miesbach building authority, represented by building site manager Jürgen Fischer, has already noticed great interest from other communities in this model playground. The city of Geretsried is in the construction phase for its own inclusion playground. This shows that the Miesbach approach is receiving positive feedback not only locally but also nationally and is perceived as a model of inclusion in the region.
A successful project for everyone
The city of Miesbach invested 380,000 euros to create the inclusion playground, which was raised through various fundraising campaigns such as Easter egg hunts and vintage car city tours. The initiators and donors deserve a big thank you for their commitment. Miesbach's website provides information about the project. The playground, which opened on June 16, 2024, should remain a place of inclusion and understanding of difference in the future. Mayor Braunmiller emphasized that this “successful project must remain!”
