Norisring: DTM presents new BoP system for better fairness!
Yesterday, July 3, 2025, the vehicle classification for the DTM races at the Norisring was announced. The SRO Motorsports Group has been responsible for the DTM vehicle classification since 2025 and has designed it according to a new, revised procedure that has been intensively discussed in recent years. The collaboration between the ADAC and Stéphane Ratel has existed for many years and has now resulted in the introduction of an adapted BoP system, which is also used in the GT World Challenge Europe. This “adjusted BoP 2024” will be used in the future as a reference for events on race tracks that have already been attended.
The grading of each vehicle for the upcoming races is based on the results from the previous year and is supplemented by necessary adjustments. The Norisring, a 2.164 kilometer long street circuit, presented particular challenges, which posed some tricky questions to the technical commission, as reported on GT Place.

Fair and transparent process
ADAC Motorsport Director Thomas Voss has announced a new system for the BoP, which was discussed with Stéphane Ratel during the DTM finale in Hockenheim. The aim is to create a fairer, more open and transparent process that not only takes into account the performance of vehicles, but also provides reliable information to manufacturers. The Motorsport Network describes this realignment as a response to the teams and manufacturers' demands for more transparency.
A new BoP committee, consisting of the SRO's technical director, Claude Surmont, as well as representatives from the ADAC and the DMSB, will weigh the manufacturers' comments and suggestions. Changes are still possible during a race weekend to keep the vehicles' performance within a tenth of a second. This innovative approach will also make its way into other SRO series, including the GT World Challenge Europe, as Sports of the Day notes.
The DTM is looking forward to the upcoming events and hopes that the new vehicle classification system will ensure more fairness and equal opportunities. The audience can certainly look forward to exciting races and thrilling duels!
