Creative stop-motion workshop: Hollywood for young people in Utopia!

An exciting weekend for creative minds is coming! Two intensive days of stop-motion filmmaking will be offered at the youth culture talent station Utopia on Saturday, December 13th and Sunday, December 14th. The workshop is aimed at anyone interested in film between the ages of 10 and 16. Under the direction of Konstantin Kühn, a social work student, the participants can learn how to easily create music videos, social media reels or short films using their cell phones.

What exactly can the young filmmakers expect? The stop motion technique makes it possible to create lively films by capturing many individual photos. Participants use materials such as cardboard, play dough, Lego or even gummy bears to bring their creative ideas to life. To ensure that nothing goes wrong while filming, it is recommended that you download the “Stop Motion Studio” app for free before you start on the first day of the workshop.

Film culture and democracy

The workshop is carried out as part of the “spots. – Alliances for Film Culture, Youth and Democracy” project of the German Film Academy. Since its founding in 2021, the project has aimed to strengthen film and media literacy among young people in rural areas. With creative workshops and online offerings, it also offers a space for important discussions on topics such as participation and democracy. The focus is on the voices of young people as they develop and implement their own ideas.

The nonprofit organization is also involved crossfade.tv in Switzerland to promote practical film education for children and young people. These film projects enable young people to translate their themes and perceptions into film, where they learn to write their own scripts, use camera angles and ultimately, edit and score films. Such initiatives not only expand the creative expression of young people, but also their knowledge about the world of film and the mechanisms of the media world.

All in all a great offer for all aspiring filmmakers in Cologne! Make your creative talent visible and take part in this unique workshop. Anyone interested in film and creative design shouldn't miss this!
