Ninth graders in BW: Alarming dissatisfaction with democracy!

Baden-Württemberg, Deutschland - A recently published Study On behalf of the Ministry of Culture of Baden-Württemberg, a significantly increasing dissatisfaction shows Ninth graders with democracy. Only 27 percent of the students surveyed are satisfied with the democratic system, which is a drastic decline of 47 percent compared to two years ago. The increase in the desire for more direct influence on politics is particularly striking: 78 percent of the ninth graders want more participation, which is a significant increase compared to 65 percent in 2022.

The Minister of Culture of Baden-Württemberg, Theresa Schopper, described the developments as "worrying" and plans to promote youth participation through the expansion of youth conferences. This is intended to actively involve young people in the opinion formation process.

The experts of the Bertelsmann Foundation warn that trust in democracy must not be played out and require targeted measures to strengthen the belief in the problem -solving ability of politics.
