New solar park in Zeilarn: save 5,000 tons of CO2 annually!

Who would have thought that the Rottal-Inn district could become the solar capital? On November 4, 2025, Schlagmann Poroton's new solar park, known as Schlagmann-Nord, was ceremoniously inaugurated. The impressive facility extends over around six hectares and is a significant acquisition for brick production in the region. Managing director Johannes Edmüller took part in the opening ceremony together with guest member of the Bundestag Günter Baumgartner, where the progress in the decarbonization of brick production was duly celebrated.

The new solar park is not only ecologically important, but also strategically important for the two Zeilarn brickworks. Up to 5,000 tons of CO2 can be saved every year by using around 11,000 double-glass modules. The solar park produces around 7.5 million kilowatt hours of green electricity, which covers the entire needs of the plants and four perlite filling systems. The investment in the system amounted to an impressive 3.5 million euros - good business for the future!

Sustainability in the construction industry

Edmüller and Baumgartner also discussed the federal government's current “construction turbo” and emphasized the need for faster approval procedures for sustainable construction projects. “It has to go faster,” said Baumgartner. Especially in times of climate change, such discussions are essential to give the construction industry new impetus. Symbolically, the PV park was put into operation with a large electrical plug, which was creatively connected to a pallet of bricks.

Not far from the opening ceremony, a completely different event made a splash in the news. While the people of Cologne are preparing for the new developments in renewable energy, an exciting NFL game took place on November 3rd between the Arizona Cardinals and the Dallas Cowboys. The Cardinals won 27-17. Quarterback Jacoby Brissett stepped in for the injured Kyler Murray and impressed with solid performances.

With this sporting variety, the people of Cologne can certainly speak! The activation of Walter Nolen, a defensive tackle, also gave the team additional momentum and motivation for the coming games. The Cardinals' next appearance is on November 9th in Seattle, where their high level of commitment will have to be demonstrated again.

Global influences and local enthusiasm

Aside from the local events, the highlights from the world of entertainment also received attention. For example, Anitta caused a stir at the Rock in Rio 2025, while Neymar won the MVP title in the Campeonato Brasileiro. These events show that there is always something new to discover not only in sport, but also in music and in everyday life.

Cologne remains a city that creates connections - whether through the energy of solar parks or through enthusiasm for sport. It is important to seize opportunities and celebrate local identity as the world around us continues to evolve.
