Adventure with Bee bots: Programming and experiencing stories!

In a creative program for children, the Gottfried-Benn-Bibliothek in Berlin combines reading stories with interactive learning about programming. Like reports the young participants use the Bee-Bot, a small, programmable robot that looks like a bee. With simple arrow keys, the children can control the robot while crawling over painted pictures and thus bringing stories to life. This concept not only promotes creativity, but also conveys the first basics of programming in a playful way.

The workshop is particularly suitable for children from preschool age and takes place on Saturday, February 1, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Admission is free of charge, but a telephone registration is required at 90 299 5458 or by email to event-bibliothek@ba-sz.berlin.de. The venue is the Gottfried-Benn-Library, located at Nentershäuser 1st place in Berlin.

interactive experiences with the honeybee

The concept of the event goes beyond simple programming. In a story, the children accompany the honeybee Bee-Bi on their feed search, which means that they are playfully introduced into the way of life of the bees. According to the information from Medien kindergarten , the children can individually adjust the read history by leaving paragraphs or using additional cards. These adjustments make it possible to adapt the narrative to the attention span of the children and to promote their creativity.

After each paragraph, the children have the option of programming the BEE-bot so that he stands on the corresponding image card on the mat and performs tasks. For older children there is also the opportunity to answer questions to deepen their knowledge of bees. The use of "You knew that ..." cards and a collection of useful links not only offer the children, but also educators, valuable suggestions for educational work on the subject of bees.

With this innovative approach, the Gottfried-Bennn library creates an exciting learning environment that introduces children to programming and at the same time sharpens their awareness of the importance of bees and their habitat.
