Knife attack in Mitte: Tourist seriously injured - police hold perpetrators!
In a shocking incident in Berlin-Mitte, a 30-year-old tourist from Spain was seriously injured in an attack with a knife. The alleged perpetrator, a 19-year-old Syrian, approached the victim at around 6 p.m. in the Stelenfeld of the monument for the murdered Jews of Europe and stabbed. The life of the man could only be saved through immediate emergency medical care and emergency operation. It is no longer in mortal danger.
Almost two hours after the attack, the attacker, blood smeared, went to police officers and was arrested. Investigations indicate a possible religious motivation based on statements by the perpetrator, which suggests a connection with the Middle East conflict. A prayer carpet, the Koran and the alleged murder weapon were found in his backpack. The Syrian, who came to Germany in 2023 as an unaccompanied minor refugee and lives in Leipzig, is presented to an investigative judge today. The Murder Commission of the State Criminal Police Office Berlin has taken over the investigation into attempted murder.
