Ost-Sachsen, Deutschland - On March 4, 2025, a new association for promoting democracy was founded in East Saxony. This association aims to maintain government funding through subcontracting status. The founding team consists of seven people who are either friends or fellow students. The entire registration of the association at the notary should cost less than 200 euros. An important aspect of finding the name is that the club name sounds appealing. East Saxony was chosen as a location because there is a need for promoting democracy. In addition, the asylum issue is viewed as an additional incentive for funding.

In order to apply for the funding, the new association plans to create a website that takes up content from the party programs of the Greens, SPD and the left. The funding applications are made to various ministries, including the Ministry of Family Affairs, the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the Federal Foreign Office. With regard to the claims to these funding, it is emphasized that there are no special requirements for study or curriculum vitae for the employment of the founding members. The rent of an office in Berlin and the payment of salaries should also be financed from the funding.

Financial aspects and funding programs

The financing of this new association is assessed as promising. It is mentioned that between five and 15 billion euros are available for NGOs annually. The Amadeu Antonio Foundation, which received six million euros in funding in 2022, is given as an example of the potential. In the first year, the association is planning a funding of 200,000 euros. The founding members are therefore in a cheap starting point, since no evidence of results or successes are required.

In a broader context, financial support for around 530 or active NGOs was announced in the draft of the Federal budget for 2024. According to a report by Bundesag.de , this support is carried out directly and indirectly by the federal government. The funds are provided by various ministries, including the Federal Chancellery and the Federal Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs. However, there is no information from important ministries such as the Ministry of Economic Affairs and the Ministry of Family, which indicates difficulties in providing information.
