Rathenow: Youth house Oasis receives urgently needed support!

Rathenow, Deutschland - In the youth center "Oasis" in Rathenow, an additional employee will be hired from mid -March. This decision is followed by a call for help from Carsten Schulz, the head of the facility that had drawn attention to the alarming situation in a fire letter. The problems with which the "oasis" has been confronted for some time now include increasing violence, drug use and a generally high psychological stress among young people. Pastor Jens Greulich has emphasized the urgency of the support and points out that the dangers lurk outside of the facility, even if there have already been dangerous situations within the house.

Appropriate a group of 30 to 40 young people, mainly between 12 and 27, visits the "oasis". It is alarming that up to 75 percent of these young people have a migration background. This increases the challenges of integration and de -escalation of conflicts in the facility. The financing of the new half is carried evenly by the city, the Hovelland district and the churches, although there are no specified sums. This supplement to the staff is considered a temporary solution for 2025, while a comprehensive examination of the staffing is planned for 2026

background of the challenges

In the Rathenow region, the problems with drugs and violence are not new. Schulz describes that groups and clans of different origins, including Germans, Arabs, Persians and Chechens, are active in drug use and sales. The increasing crime and the willingness of violence among young people make support from additional specialist personnel urgently in order to be able to address the individual needs, especially girls with a migration background.

Pastor Greulich therefore demands reinforcement of the staff in the municipal education committee in order to meet the special requirements. The chair of the Education Committee, Diana Golze, strengthens this demand and describes the "oasis" as an essential point of contact for the young people in the region. Several voices indicate the challenges caused by persistent problem migration, which affect particularly rural areas. Despite a loud call for help from different parts of the country, an appropriate response from political managers so far.

The situation in the “Oasis” youth center is symptomatic of the more comprehensive social challenges that arise from migration and social inequalities. Information on the background and structural problems is examined in more detail in a report by the Bundestag, which here Bundestag. In summary, it can be seen that the “oasis” is not only a place of encounter for young people, but also a reflection for the urgently needed reforms in social policy in order to meet the needs of a diverse youth.
