Demolition started: Werder Bremen is building a new football campus in Bremen
Attention friends of the round leather: SV Werder Bremen took an important step into the future today, December 3, 2025. The demolition work in the Pauliner Marsch marks the first milestone for the new football campus. The final signature for the extensive renovation work in the performance center has now been officially made and the first crane has already started work. The Werder Hall and adjacent outbuildings have to give way to make room for the most modern training facility the club has ever seen.
Managing director Tarek Brauer was pleased with the start of the work. “We have a good hand in planning this project,” he emphasized, pointing to the massive support from the club and sponsors. The costs for the new campus amount to around 23 million euros. The plan is to complete the new complex by 2027, with the demolition of the existing buildings expected to be fully completed this year - by mid-January 2026 at the latest. Construction of the new campus will begin in February 2026.
New football campus for young talent and women
The new campus will serve as a sporting home not only for the junior teams, but also for the women's teams of SV Werder Bremen. The planned facilities are impressive: modern cabins, comprehensive athletic rooms and effective physiotherapy options are on the list. The club sees this investment as not only an opportunity to improve the infrastructure, but also to send a strong signal for the development of football in Bremen. The new buildings are intended to improve training conditions in order to produce talented players.
With the new football campus, Bremen can also take into account the concerns of residents in the Pauliner Marsch. They feared a restricted view of the Weser due to the planned development in this flood risk area. Brauer has assured that construction work will ensure that as many trees as possible are preserved. However, it may be necessary to fell two small trees, with replacement plantings on the horizon.
Core renovation of place 11
Before work on the new campus gets into full swing, the core renovation of space 11 is on the agenda. This measure was necessary to meet the demands of modern football. The building application for the renovation was submitted last week. There will be no new building structures at number 11, but the existing ones will be rebuilt and divided into three sections:
- Erster Abschnitt: Moderne Umkleidekabinen, ein Pressekonferenzraum sowie eine Mixed Zone für Interviews.
- Zweiter Abschnitt: Umkleiden ausgestattet mit Duschen und Toiletten für Breiten- und Schulsport.
- Dritter Abschnitt: Die Gastronomie bleibt erhalten.
The total costs for the renovation amount to around eight million euros, although the city of Bremen could cover a quarter of this amount. A sign that the city is working closely with the club to create a competitive sporting environment. Once the renovation work has been completed, the final foundation will be created so that the new Werder football campus can be built.
During this exciting time for SV Werder Bremen, fans and supporters can look forward to more than just the new premises. The football infrastructure as a whole is being strengthened - often even in times of increasingly pressing discussions about the importance of sustainable practice in sport. Even with the new places, care is taken to ensure that resources are used in a respectful and environmentally friendly manner. Here you will also find helpful suggestions on how the maintenance of lawns can be made more effective so that they can be used over a longer period of time.
The anticipation of what is growing here can be felt with every weed cutting that is visible to everyone. A new chapter in Bremen's football history will soon open - and we look forward to keeping you regularly updated on the progress.
